Celebrating a vibrant autumn at Harmeny

As the leaves turned golden and the evenings grew darker, we embraced the best of the season here at Harmeny with creativity, community and plenty of autumn cheer.  As we step into the colder months, these moments of celebration, imagination and kindness remind us of the strength of our community. Whether carving pumpkins, dressing up, or supporting others near and far, we continue to find warmth in coming together.

A pumpkin patch full of imagination

Our Community Garden received a fang-tastic makeover, and the star of the show was our much-loved pumpkin patch. The pumpkins, carefully grown and tended by our wonderful gardeners, were harvested in time for our pumpkin carving competition.

We spent a lively morning outdoors, full of muddy boots, big smiles and plenty of laughter. Not even the rain could dampen the excitement of choosing the perfect pumpkin to take inside for the festivities.

From garden to ghoulish creations

The cottages became a hive of activity as the pumpkins were named, decorated and shaped into extraordinary Halloween characters. The designs were so impressive that choosing the winners proved incredibly difficult!

spook-tacular Halloween celebration

On Halloween itself, the fun continued as we danced the evening away at our spook-tacular party. Children and adults alike joined in; many dressed in their most imaginative costumes.

The evening was filled with themed activities, games and plenty of laughter, with prizes awarded for the best costumes.

Acts of kindness that warm the season

Shoebox donations

Autumn was also a time for generosity and connection. Our adults and children proudly supported the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal, donating eight boxes filled with thoughtful gifts. These are now on their way to Eastern Europe, joining another 208 boxes donated by residents of Balerno.

A special mention goes to two of our children, who generously used their own pocket money to help fill three of the boxes — a lovely reminder that kindness has no age.

Winter is coming

These were just some of the highlights from our autumn at Harmeny. We’re now looking forward to the celebrations ahead as we prepare for Christmas and the end of another memorable year together.
