We recently welcomed back another inspiring mentoring event at Harmeny, organised by Here4U and hosted collaboratively with HUB for SUCCESS and LEAPS.
This session brought together care-experienced young adults currently in further or higher education to share their stories, insights, and encouragement with our senior-phase pupils.

Supporting transitions and building confidence
The sessions were shaped around key themes to help young people transition to college and adulthood. From navigating college life (academically, socially, and financially) to building independence and resilience and making the most of support services and networks, among others. What made these sessions particularly special was the direct involvement of care-experienced mentors, who not only shared their personal journeys but also led activities, answered questions and supported discussions.
Members of our education team also took part, contributing their own expertise and helping to ensure that the sessions were both engaging and participatory. Activities included a lively quiz, movement games and creative drawing exercises, all designed to make learning interactive, reflective and fun.
Feedback from both pupils and adults has been very positive. Many noted that hearing from mentors with lived experience brought a sense of authenticity and relatability that made the sessions especially impactful. These honest exchanges not only built understanding but also fostered hope, confidence and a deeper belief in what’s possible.
Collaboration and connection
This was the second mentoring event of its kind, and we are delighted that the partnership with HUB for SUCCESS and LEAPS continues to grow stronger. Together,
we aim to hold these sessions three times per year, ensuring that each one builds on the last. Later this term, HUB for SUCCESS and LEAPS will begin sessions with our S4 pupils — an exciting expansion of this collaboration that will help more young people benefit from this supportive and inspiring network.
By continuing to build on the momentum of each session, we aim to create lasting, supportive relationships that empower our young people to take their next steps with self-belief and determination.
Mentoring and Here4U
Mentoring – in both individual and group settings – plays a vital role in the Here4U project because of its powerful role in transforming young lives—especially those who are care-experienced or navigating difficult circumstances. By offering steady, compassionate guidance, mentors help build confidence, nurture resilience, and open up new pathways in education and employment. Whether it’s inspiring self-belief, supporting personal growth, or nurturing potential — with a proven track record — mentoring creates meaningful connections that lead to brighter, more hopeful futures.
