Chief Executive to stand down after 14 years

Update from Neil Squires, Chief Executive.

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that I will be moving on from Harmeny at the end of April 2024.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, as Harmeny is such a special organisation with the most exceptional staff and inspirational children and young people. However, by the time I leave I will have been the Chief Executive for almost 14 years and the time has come for me to move on towards new opportunities.

Over the next ten months, I will continue to work alongside the Board and Senior Management Team, to see the current developments through and develop our Strategic Plan for the next two years. I am extremely proud of how Harmeny’s staff have worked together over the last few years, and I have no doubt that the charity will continue to grow from strength to strength.

At Harmeny we provide the foundations for turning young lives around, and I consider myself very fortunate to work with such a remarkable group of children and fantastic team of staff. Harmeny is a very special organisation and fulfilling the role Chief Executive has not only been hugely enjoyable but also an immense privilege.

I’m pleased to say that Aspen People has been appointed to support the recruitment of a new Chief Executive. For a confidential discussion about the position please contact Debbie Shields or Lauryn Pringle on 0141 212 7555. More information about the role is available here.

Neil Squires has been the Chief Executive of Harmeny since July 2010 and over his time has overseen continuous improvement and organisational growth. Prior to this he worked at Barnardo’s Scotland for eleven years, latterly as Assistant Director Children’s Services. Learn more about the people at Harmeny here.
