Celebrating the end of a wonderful school year at Harmeny

Harmeny Prom Celebration

As the school year draws to a close, we’ve had the joy of celebrating some very special milestones with our incredible children and young people.

Celebrating transitions

One of the highlights was the Prom, where some of our remarkable young people marked their transition to the senior phase of education.

On Prom night our young people got dressed up in their beautiful dresses and suits and started the evening with a bus trip to South Queensferry for some photos with our iconic bridges. But it wasn’t just any bus but one of the Gibbs party buses. The ride turned into a disco that belted out their favourite songs.

Back at Harmeny, the school was transformed with colourful lights, disco ball and balloons from Beauty of Balloons to create a magical space to dance the night away. All fuelled by pizza, (because no night is special without pizza) and very special treats from Anni Bakes.  It was truly a night to remember!

Time to ‘move on up’ to secondary

We also held our heartfelt annual Moving Up Ceremony at the school—a moment to reflect on the growth and achievements of our children throughout their primary years at Harmeny. Surrounded by teachers, carers, and friends, we shared stories of trips, activities, and accomplishments. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as their teachers shared heartfelt words and poems. As part of the day, pupils also received their new uniforms as they prepare for the next stage of their journey.

We are incredibly proud of everything our children have achieved this year, and we can’t wait to see what bright futures lie ahead for each of them.

A day of sports, joy and community

Our much-anticipated annual Sports Day brought the Harmeny community together in a morning filled with sunshine, laughter, and games. Cottage teams proudly wore their colours, painted their faces, made banners, personalised t-shirts, and devised their team chants to motivate them round our unique sports day challenges.

One of the highlights of the day was having many former pupils return for the event, several of whom helped set up the games, or joined their previous cottage teams and got stuck into the games like no time had passed. It was also great to see many familiar faces from the Care Team coming back to take on the challenges. All made possible thanks to our Here4U project.

With music in the background and cheerful helpers at every station, children and adults played side by side in eight high-energy games full of teamwork, joy, and the occasional soaking!

When the final horn blew, it wasn’t about who won (although congratulations to the young people and adults of Caroline Cottage!) The true victory was realising that on the sports field, age and roles faded away and we came together as one.

A delicious spread

After all the action, the barbecue was the perfect way to unwind, share stories and reflect on everything we’ve experienced and achieved together over the year. The Catering team put on such a delicious spread of sweet and savoury treats, it was impossible to resist going back for seconds!

The summer holidays begin!

Now it’s time to enjoy what the holidays have in store for us and for the Education Team to recharge their batteries for the upcoming school year. It was truly a day to remember, strengthening the bonds that unite us and leaving us smiling as we head into the summer break.
