Stability, success and stronger futures

Three years after expanding our services, we’re seeing the positive difference it is making for the young people who call Harmeny home.

longer stays stronger futures at Harmeny

The opening of The Learning Hub in 2023 and the refurbishment of accommodation for older young people in 2022 mean that many children can now stay at Harmeny for longer, avoiding moves that were previously driven by age or educational stage rather than individual need.

The average length of stay at Harmeny has now increased from three years and five months to four years and two months. More than half (51%) of our young people have now been with us for over four years, compared with 26% before our services were extended.

This additional time matters. It enables young people to build and maintain trusting relationships, experience greater consistency in their care and education, and develop a stronger sense of belonging. It also enables us to support young people through their key education years and stand alongside them as they explore different pathways to positive destinations such as college, university, work and apprenticeships.

Celebrating educational achievement

This summer, Harmeny’s first S4 cohort achieved an impressive 23 National 4 qualifications between them, marking an important milestone for both the young people and the school.

For many of our young people, educational journeys have been interrupted by difficult life experiences. Being able to continue their learning in a familiar, supportive environment helps them grow in confidence, develop new skills and achieve qualifications that can open doors to stronger futures.

We are hugely proud of young people for all their hard work in achieving these qualifications and look forward to supporting them in their S5 year and beyond through partnership working with local colleges and work experience opportunities. We continue to develop our services to provide the right spaces and opportunities for our young people to reach their potential, and to prepare them for life beyond Harmeny.
