We have marked the end of the school year with a series of joyful celebrations, bringing together children, young people, families, carers, staff and friends of our community.
At the end of June, we came together at Harmeny for our Moving Up Ceremony, a special occasion to celebrate the children preparing to take their next step into secondary education.
Joined by families, carers and staff, it was a meaningful moment to pause and recognise how far our young people have come. There was a real sense of pride in the room, from the children themselves, the adults who have supported them and their friends watching them prepare for this exciting new chapter.
One particularly special moment was seeing our young people receive their new secondary school shirts, a small but powerful symbol of the journey ahead. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate their achievements, their confidence and the many memories they have made in their class.
Ending the year with energy, colour and community
To bring the school year to a close, we also held our much-loved annual Sports Day; always one of the most anticipated events in the Harmeny calendar.
The day brought together young people, adults, families, carers, former pupils, volunteers and friends of Harmeny for a joyful celebration of community spirit. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces returning and to feel the encouragement, laughter and friendly competition that filled the day.
As always, our cottage teams brought a fantastic sense of pride and creativity. From decorations and flags to colours and team anthems, each cottage found its own way to stand out and build excitement before the games began.
New challenges and old favourites
This year’s activities included a brilliant mix of new games and adapted classics. From the fast-paced fun of Hungry Hippos to a Harmeny twist on Whack a Rat, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Across the field, children and adults took on challenges involving jumping, running, water, balance, focus, coordination and teamwork. It was fantastic to see younger and older members of our community working together, sharing ideas and finding creative ways to help their cottage succeed.
There were plenty of smiles, a few splashes, lots of cheering and some very determined competitors!
A close competition
The competition was extremely close, with every cottage giving it their all. The judges had a very difficult job deciding the final results, which showed just how much effort and enthusiasm had gone into every activity.
This year, Holly Cottage were crowned the winners, a huge congratulations to them. However, the day was about much more than the final score. It was about taking part, supporting one another and celebrating everything that makes the Harmeny community so special.
Coming together as one Harmeny
One of the most powerful parts of the day was seeing people from across Harmeny come together. Sports Day gave colleagues from different teams and departments the chance to connect, support each other and enjoy time together outside the usual routines of the working day.
It was also lovely to welcome back former pupils, former colleagues and volunteers, whose presence added to the sense of connection and shared history. Moments like these remind us that Harmeny is not just a place, but a community that continues to grow and stay connected.
A well-earned barbecue
After all the excitement, the day ended in true Harmeny style with our traditional barbecue.
It was the perfect way to round off the celebrations, sharing food, catching up, reflecting on the year and enjoying time together before the summer holidays begin. A big thank you to everyone involved in preparing and supporting the day, from organising games and cheering teams on to cooking, judging, volunteering and helping everything run smoothly.
As we look back on the end of term, we are incredibly proud of our children and young people, and grateful to everyone who has contributed to such a positive and memorable school year.
