There were nerves, excitement and plenty of cheering on Sunday 10 May as a team of brave supporters took on a 131ft rooftop abseil at The Port of Leith Distillery in support of Harmeny’s Play Appeal.
One of our Harmeny Heroes who took on the daring abseil
From the moment participants stepped onto the rooftop, the atmosphere was buzzing. Friends, families and supporters gathered below to cheer everyone on as teams from NatWest, 21 Health and Social Care, and Harmeny faced the challenge together — and took in some incredible views across Edinburgh along the way.
Going over the edge
For many, the hardest part was taking that very first step over the edge. But with lots of encouragement, and a few deep breaths(!), every participant made it safely down the side of the world’s tallest whisky distillery.
Excitement and concentration at the top!

Raising funds for our new Play Appeal
The abseil raises funds for Play Appeal and is already well on its way to raising £3,000, helping us improve outdoor play and activity spaces for the children and young people we support.
These spaces are so important for building confidence, friendships, creativity and opportunities to simply have fun outdoors. Every donation helps us continue creating safe, inclusive environments where young people can thrive.
”What a fun experience to take part in and made even more special that I got to raise money for the new adventure playground. I can’t wait to be racing along the high ropes with the young people!"
Rebecca Buchan, Education Manager at Harmeny
Making a difference together
A massive thank you to everyone who took part, sponsored our Heroes and came along to support on the day. Events like this simply would not happen without such an incredible community behind us.
There’s still time to sponsor the team and help them reach their target!
