Dr Suzanne Zeedyk shares knowledge at Harmeny

Learning at Harmeny isn’t just for the young people that we look after, we also provide a wide variety of learning opportunities for our staff to support their induction and continuous professional development

This year, we were delighted to host Dr Suzanne Zeedyk for three one-day training sessions with our Care and Education Teams. Dr Suzanne Zeedyk is a developmental psychologist, research scientist and an expert in Attachment Theory. Drawing on her extensive research and experience Suzanne explored the fundamental attachment needs of children, and how healthy attachments can soothe a child’s stress system.

An ‘eye opening’ session

It was inspiring and motivating for our staff to hear from Suzanne, and benefit from her passion and expertise. Suzanne remarked that she has never been in a room with “so much knowledge of attachment” and also reflected on how “[Harmeny’s] approach to working with traumatised children offers insights for working with all children.”

The training was hugely beneficial to our team, feedback included: “Fantastic, eye opening and very informative. It would be great to have further sessions. [Suzanne has] a great understanding of attachment, trust and connection.”

Investing in our team

As our young people grow with us we continue to develop our staff team to support their needs in their teenage years. Our Learning and Development team have implemented an extensive training programme covering topics including the adolescent brain, self-harm, sexual health, harmful sexual behaviours and escape techniques. We also support our staff into and through their qualification journey by fully funding mandatory qualifications.
